Overstrand to Cromer 2

This atmospheric coastal photograph looks northeast along the North Norfolk shoreline from Overstrand towards Cromer. The scene is dominated by powerful waves surging against a line of timber groynes that stretch diagonally into the distance, creating a strong leading line that guides the eye towards the distant silhouette of Cromer Pier on the horizon.
The sea is restless and turbulent, captured with a slightly extended exposure that softens the movement of the water into swirling ribbons of foam and spray. Waves crash over the weathered wooden defences, sending white water cascading through the gaps and lending a sense of energy and drama to the image.
To the left, the shingle beach curves beneath the steep, eroded cliffs of the Norfolk coast. The cliffs are bathed in warm, low-angle light, their ochre and rust-coloured faces contrasting beautifully with the cooler greys and blues of the sea and sky. Small seabirds dot the shoreline, adding scale to the expansive landscape.
Above, heavy clouds hang across the sky, but breaks in the cloud cover allow soft sunlight to illuminate parts of the scene. This interplay of light and shadow creates a subtle palette of pinks, mauves, and warm amber tones that give the photograph a painterly quality.
In the far distance, the unmistakable outline of Cromer Pier emerges through the sea haze, providing a focal point and a sense of place. The combination of dramatic surf, rugged coastal defences, glowing cliffs, and moody weather captures the raw beauty and ever-changing character of the North Norfolk coast.
