Overstrand - waves and Groynes

This seascape captures a dramatic moment along the North Norfolk coast at Overstrand, where the high tide a rough sea partially submerged a line of wooden groynes. The photograph is rendered in cool blue-grey tones, creating an atmosphere that feels both wild and contemplative.
The long exposure transforms the churning water into silky, mist-like streaks that sweep across the foreground, softening the power of the waves while still conveying their relentless motion. The groynes emerge as dark vertical posts, some almost swallowed by the high tide, their weathered forms standing as fragile markers against the vastness of the North Sea.
Beyond them, the horizon stretches beneath a broad expanse of cloud-filled sky. Diffused sunlight filters through breaks in the clouds, illuminating the sea with a cold, ethereal glow. A solitary navigation marker in the distance adds a subtle focal point, emphasizing the scale and emptiness of the scene.
The composition balances movement and stillness: the blurred water suggests the ceaseless energy of the tide, while the fixed wooden structures evoke endurance and resilience. The overall effect is atmospheric and slightly melancholic, capturing the raw beauty of a winter sea and the ever-changing relationship between land and water on the Norfolk coast.
