Happisburgh, Norfolk

Norfolk Coast landscape photography of Happisburgh Beach
Happisburgh, Norfolk Coast - For this black and white photo a 10 stop Lee Big Stopper filter was used. What this filter does is increase the shutter speed drastically by cutting out the light to the sensor. Basically it's like photographing through a welding mask! It cuts out so much light you can't see anything through the viewfinder you need to compose and focus the shot before carefully placing the filter over the lens just before shooting. To give you an idea if your shutter speed without this filter was an eighth of a second with it the shutter speed becomes 2 minutes 8 seconds.
The above is why the photograph looks how it does. Over a couple of minutes all the wave movement is completely blurred out making the water look solid. I was also lucky on this day as it wasn't windy. This means the clouds didn't move too much and I was able to make the sky look fairy natural.
